Why offer flowers?
There are so many reasons!
We all have so much "stuff." Flowers come and then they go. There is an experience for the senses offered, rather than more "stuff."
Flowers are recyclable. I don't use anything in my bouquets or arrangements that can't be put in your compost pile or recycle bin. If you must have a plastic thingy in your bouquet, I'll do it, but I'd rather we both be green.
Flowers support the local economy! We are an amazing state here in Oregon. We have nurseries galore from which we reap benefits, not only by enjoying the result of their labors, but also the beautiful scenery that agriculture creates.
Flowers have deep cultural and psychological meanings to most humans. We love the colors, the beauty, the fragility... and we love the attention!
A funeral without flowers is too dreary to contemplate. Even cave men put flowers in their graves! Sure, give money to charity, but how about the survivors? They would like something more tangible and soothing. Flowers or a green plant are perfect.
In short, flowers are an all around good way to communicate.
If you want a bunch of flowers, go to your neighborhood grocery store.
If you want flowers as art, go to a floral designer.
